Stories of Volcano-hindered Travel in Europe
With so many people stranded in Europe, there have been all types of crazy emails, calls, research, etc all triggered by people figuring out how they're gonna react to the airport shutdowns across Europe.
If you have any stories you want to share, revelations, helps OR requests, let us know.
Personally: My wife is stranded in London, but since she has a local friend she's been able to stay with while stuck there, it's not been that traumatic or expensive. However, if she were having to pay expensive food and lodging, it would definitely be a financial and emotional problem.
I hope postings and replies to this are not too bad.
Cheers.
For any who might be stranded, perhaps a bit of humor will make the travel chaos a little less painful?!
Here are a few volcano jokes passed on by one of my teammates who's stuck in Germany:
I think it’s too soon to make jokes about the Icelandic volcano…we should at least wait until the dust settles.
Dear Iceland following your bank fiasco, we said send cash, not ash.
It was the last wish of the Icelandic economy that its ashes were spread all over Europe.
America has declared war on Iceland. Apparently they are accusing them of harbouring a “weapon of mass disruption”…
In the UK election many right-wingers are voting for the Icelandic Volcano Party, as they have stopped immigration.
First the economy goes under, now Iceland sets itself on fire. I smell insurance scam!
Ash cloud disrupting Norway and Iceland fish exports. Higher menu prices. Good smoky flavour, though.
How do you pronounce Eyjafjallajökull? I believe it’s called “The volcano in Iceland.”
“Eyjafjallajökull”: Iceland Volcano Spews Consonants and Vowels
Normally volcanoes, like mountains, get their names from the surname of the first person who reaches the top of them. One exception is Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull, which got its name from the last words uttered by the first person to fall into the top of it
Eyjafjallajökull - named when the person writing about it fell asleep on his keyboard.
Eyjafjallajökull is erupting only twice a year — April through September, and October through March.
Thinking of and praying for the many who are stranded far from home.

Hmmm, not sure why my previous reply is not displaying. It was just a series of great volcano jokes passed along by one of my stranded teammates. I thought the humor might help lessen the frustration many are facing due to the huge travel disruptions.

Thanks. All of the people we were trying to retrieve, made it last week. I hope others were as fortunate.
