This excellent article was forwarded to a group of people working on Haiti. It seems like the perfect example of "Lessons Learned" information that we want to encourage people to share within the Starfish Community.

Here's the link to a BBC Article on Death Comparisons between the recent China, Italy and Haiti earthquakes. It is important information to understand.

I don't want to think that we are trying to make the Starfish website a dumping ground for every article we come across, but please always consider sharing the best articles.

This article does a great job of conveying the information. A lot the points, like the dense population, how many of the people lived in poorly constructed houses, and the difficulty getting into the airports and ports has been discussed on this site. But for me, the most telling stat was the graph showing that 1 in every 15 people affected by this quake were killed. That number is far higher than the other earthquakes in the study, and a good indication of how badly the nation of Haiti was hit. A very good lesson to learn.

Sometimes out of a multitude of simple processes comes something unexpected on a global scale.
