International Crisis Aid is leading food & water distributions in Leogane, Haiti -- south of Port au Prince. Leogane was 90% destroyed by the earthquakes. We found an orphange, school and church completely leveled with 85 orphans sleeping outside. We are committed to rebuild in the long term.

ICA is recieving aid from the US Marines and security from Canadian Navy. UN is providing tents for the orphans.

ICA is in need of more food for continued food distributions in the city. Also in need of building materials to rebuild the orphange, school and church for the 85 orphans. Possibly making it larger so it can also take in new orphans.

Jennifer, have you had any response to the need of food and building materials for this orphanage? It would be great to hear an update on the situation there. Thanks.

Yes!

ICA has been distributing 20,000 to 25,000 meals a day thanks to food being provided by the U.S. Marines.

The Canadian Navy have also provided a team for security during distributions.

In addition, the Canadian Navy and US Marines have already removed the debris from the orphanage compound, built the first temporary shelter, and should begin rebuilding the protective wall around the compound today.

ICA was able to purchase some materials for rebuilding the temporary shelter.

The biggest need now is securing funds to rebuild the orphanage.

We are told this is possibly the first rebuilding project already in progress.
