Starfish Community
Starfish Community on the Ground in Port Au Prince
Colleagues,
We would like to update you on the status of the Starfish Community responding to the earthquake. A medical/communcations team arrived in Haiti yesterday and are preparing to set up their clinic in Carrefour.
Their mission is primarily medical relief, but some of their services to the community might include
- assessments
- communication (both in country and to the US)
- logistics (they will be anchored in Carrefour, but are in constant communication with some of the partners offering flights within Haiti)
- point of contact (they are networked with locals who may be able to assist with housing, volunteers, etc.)
Please note that all of this is secondary to their medical mission, but they are the Starfish Community's primary contact thus far. If you need to coordinate with them or contact them, please reply to this thread, post a note on IDRN.info, or contact help.haiti@idrn.info
It is humbling to be around so many people who are willing to drop everything to get on a plane to go help strangers. Thank you for your continued service. We look forward to working with you more.

The medical team is treating hundreds of patients, but there is still an enormous need. You can read the latest update on HISG's website http://hisg.org/projects-and-news/news/57/. They have asked that any medical teams responding bring as many supplies as you can manage: bandages, anti-bacterials, etc. There are many wounds and many infected wounds, and they are afraid they do not have enough supplies for all the people who need treatment.
Good article Kyle!

Kyle, is there another update yet from the medical team there in Carrefour?
The Starfish Community team has returned from Haiti. They worked some long days in grueling conditions. They were able to treat a lot of injuries, though, and we will have pictures to share soon. I believe there are two more medical teams from the Starfish Community still in Carrefour, one from Brazil and one from New York, but I am not certain.
The latest update from the teams on the ground was that the medical need has subsided quite a bit, but the people need food badly.
Are you going to post another article update and a PULSE?
